Uhrichsville Democrats seek candidates to fill council Ward 2 vacancy

| March 31, 2022

UHRICHSVILLE (WJER) (Mar. 31, 2022) – Uhrichsville Democratic Central Committee members are again having to fill a vacancy on city council.

Committee member Martha Campbell says they are seeking a Democrat for the Ward 2 seat that recently opened with the resignation of Ron Miller.

She says the four committee members will meet April 5th at 6 p.m. in Uhrichsville Council Chambers to hear from the candidates and select one that night.

We give each of those people that are there interested in this position the opportunity to speak about what they would like to do, why they want to be on council. And then the members of the committee can ask additional questions,” Campbell said.

Campbell says the person should have a passion to give back.

I think just somebody who is very interested in the future of the city Uhrichsville and making sure that we are making progress in the community,” she said.

Campbell says the committee has experience filling vacancies, including when Mark Haney went  from being council president to mayor and last year when Eric Harmon withdrew from the ballot.

In the past several years we’ve had to do this multiple times. So actually, we’re kind of proficient. It’ll be a very smooth process,” she said.

She says they want serious candidates only.

I think a lot of people don’t understand the time and the commitment and the effort put forth by these people that are serving on city council,” Campbell said.

Campbell says the open Ward 2 term runs through the end of 2023 and that seat will be up for vote on next year’s ballot.

Those interested in serving should send an e-mail to martha.jane.campbell@gmail.com by 4 p.m. on April 5th.
