UHRICHSVILLE (WJER) (Jan. 5, 2024) – It’s a mix of new and returning faces at city hall this year.

Councilman turned Mayor Jim Zucal hasn’t picked a service director but tapped former Ward 4 representative Amy Myers to as the city’s code enforcement official.

“We like to tell the constituents that we’re open for business and under new management.”

Zucal says he spent his first week in office getting to know city employees and mapping out the goals he hopes to achieve.

“We want to clean up the blight. We want to pave our streets and alleys. We want to get organized and have some downtown events. There’s a lot of good things happening in Uhrichsville, and we’re looking forward to a great first year.”

Myers was replaced on council by Paulette Clark, who ran unopposed in November; Leigh Ann McCray beat out Terry Engstrom in Ward 2; and Harold Shamel unseated former Ward 3 councilman Michael Huff. The three of them joined incumbents Matt Fox, Bill Goshon, and Buck Cottrell in the council room for the first time Tuesday evening to approve a temporary spending plan to get the city through until council passes a full budget.

The Uhricsvhille Democratic Central Committee is/was meeting this morning to pick someone to serve out the rest of Zucal’s unexpired term as an at-large councilman. Council has its next meeting Thursday evening and will likely pick a replacement for Wendy Mann, who resigned from her at-large seat last month.
