Unanticipated repairs delay opening day at Uhrichsville Waterpark

| May 24, 2023

UHRICHSVILLE (WJER) (May 24, 2023) -The city waterpark usually re-opens for Memorial Day weekend, but not this year.

Mayor Mark Haney says a leak they discovered after filling the pool forced them to push opening day back a week to next Saturday.

“We noticed we were losing a little bit of water, roughly about two inches overnight. We checked the hydrostat valves, which is how we fill it and how we empty it. We had the fire department divers come in. They checked them. They were good. What we discovered is some of the seals along the cement needing replaced.”

City workers repaired the pool and should start filling it back up in the next day or so, although Haney says they can’t let folks jump in right away.

“It takes about two days to fill it, and then it takes about two to three days to get it on chemical and get it to heat proper, so we don’t want to rush it. We want to start filling it and make sure we don’t have any other issues that we don’t know about and do it right.”

After next Saturday, the Uhrichsville Waterpark will open be open seven days a week for the summer, closing nightly at 6 and during inclement weather.
