Update: 3 injured in Sunday house fire in Uhrichsville

UHRICHSVILLE (WJER) (July 28, 2025) – The city’s fire chief says a late Sunday afternoon fire in the 300 block of East High Street left three people with injuries – including a firefighter.
A neighbor called it in to 9-1-1 shortly before 6 p.m.
Chief Justin Edwards says two residents of the home were taken to area hospitals. He could not provide any more information on them or their injuries.
Edwards also believes the injured firefighter experienced heat exhaustion and should be okay.
He says firefighters had it out in about 20 minutes but were on scene more than four hours in all for overhaul and to investigate.
The fire took a toll on the house, too.
Edwards says there was smoke and fire damage throughout the first floor, and nobody can live there right now. However, he thinks it can be repaired.
The cause remains unclear.
Edwards says it appears the fire was accidental and started in the kitchen, but it remains under investigation. He says nothing appears suspicious. The State Fire Marshal’s office was called to assist.
He says a medical helicopter was also contacted on Sunday for the injured but couldn’t respond due to the weather.
Dennison, New Philadelphia, Dover, Warwick Township, and Arrowhead Joint Fire District firefighters also responded.
