NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (May 1, 2024) – The Ohio Department of Transportation says delays could be possible for drivers at times now through Thursday on US 250 just west of Tappan Lake.

District 11 spokeswoman Lauren Borell says ODOT has been controlling traffic to help some owners get their boats through the construction zone there.

“We have been working with some local folks to accommodate these wide loads because these are the larger houseboat type boats that are going to need moved into the lake,” she said.

Borell says crews will be shutting down traffic in both directions for up to 15 minutes at a time.

But she says those crews will let vehicles through if they start to see significant backups and they will also try and avoid stopping traffic during peak times.

“It’s kind of a big coordination effort between the marina, ODOT, and the contractor, just to make sure we’re safely doing this while accommodating traffic and getting these boats through at the same time,” said Borell.

Borell says the boats are primarily being moved between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
