Volunteers wanted for Dover Community Garden
DOVER (WJER) (April 30, 2024) – The volunteers responsible for the non-profit Dover Community Garden are encouraging the public to come see what it’s all about as they get ready for planting season.
Secretary-Treasurer Erica Wright van Pelt says everyone’s invited to the annual planning meeting today (Tuesday) at 6:30 p.m. at the garden, which is located at the bottom of Canal Street by the Tuscarawas River.
“We are a very open group,” said van Pelt. “We accept all people that want to show up, from two years old to 200 years old, we don’t care.”
She says the group will discuss ways to maintain what it has established and how to slightly expand the garden in a manageable way with the few volunteers they currently have.
“Last year was a tremendous year of growth,” she said. “We had a lot of new volunteers come out. A lot of new beds were built, including a beautiful herb garden corner.”
The garden has been around now for about five years. She says they could always use more help.
“As long as you’re passionate about gardening and learning and sharing – we are not experts by any means – but we’re definitely learning as we go.”
She says people attending today’s meeting should bring lawn chairs.
If it rains, the meeting will be moved to Missions Café on West Second Street.
