Woman who endangered child to be reimprisoned for sex crimes
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Sept. 11, 2024) – A former city resident will serve 10 years to life in prison for rape and gross sexual imposition.
Jessica Rohr, 38, received the punishment Wednesday when she appeared before Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court Judge Elizabeth Thomakos.
“I am selecting – and it is a mandatory term – 10 years to life on Counts 1, 2, and 3, which would be served concurrently, as well as 24 months on the felony of the 3rd degree, also a concurrent service.”
Assistant County Prosecutor Fred Scott says the charges arose from a separate child sex abuse case involving the same victim, who later came forward with additional information.
“Given the age of our victim in this case and the acts that occurred here, it’s completely understandable why someone would not disclose those things.”
Rohr spent three years behind bars for child endangerment and had been staying at a sober living house in Akron since her release. She regretted becoming involved with her co-defendant in that case, 63-year-old Jeffrey L. Brady, who’s serving life in prison with parole eligibility in 2040.
“I’ve been working so hard to get my life together, Your Honor. I work every day. I got to AA meetings. I’m not a bad person. I just made the mistake of being around the wrong people.”
Rohr reportedly experienced sexual abuse herself growing up, but Thomakos said that was no excuse.
“All I can say about that is what happens to you is not your fault but what you do to others is your responsibility.”
Rohr will be on parole for five years after getting back out of prison and is required to register for the rest of her life as a Tier III sex offender.
