YMCA to welcome Hunter Armstrong home at Aug. 17th meet-and-greet
DOVER – Olympic swimmer Hunter Armstrong is back in Ohio, and the local YMCA is planning an event to welcome him home.
Armstrong won Olympic gold in Paris with a show-stealing performance in the men’s four-by-100 freestyle relay and silver swimming the anchor leg of the men’s four-by-100 medley relay.
The Tuscarawas County YMCA is planning to welcome Armstrong home on Saturday, Aug. 17, by hosting a meet-and-greet event from noon to 4 p.m. It will take place in the YMCA gymnasium and will include photo opportunities, autographs, and a Q&A session.
YMCA Marketing Director Kathleen Johnson says the YMCA is incredibly proud of Armstrong, who started swimming with the Silver Streaks program as a youth.
“We are super excited to welcome back Hunter Armstrong into the community and give him a chance to stand with everybody who is his greatest fans cheering along from Tuscarawas County,” she said.
“We love Hunter at the Y. I had a story that a parent told me the other day. He was swimming in the pool…and he came over and he said, ‘Hey, would you mind, could I give your daughter a couple of pointers?’ She was like, ‘Yes!’ He’s so humble. He’s just a truly great young man.”
