Canton man dies following crash on I-77 near Bolivar
LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP (WJER) (Aug. 18, 2023) – The State Highway Patrol says a Canton man has died following a single vehicle crash on I-77 just north of the Bolivar exit.
The victim was 51-year-old Gary Powell.
Troopers say Powell’s 2019 Ford F250 pickup truck was traveling northbound on I-77 when it went across the median and both lanes of I-77 south before striking some small trees and a fence at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Powell was taken to Mercy Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.
Troopers say alcohol is not believed to have been a factor and Powell was wearing a seatbelt.
It’s unclear at this time what caused Powell to lose control of his vehicle. The crash remains under investigation.
