GIRLS GOLF

Dover (195) tops Canton Central Catholic (225)

at Arrowhead Golf Course Saturday. Leading the way for the Tornadoes were Seniors Livie Hamilton and Tatum Tylke with a 44 and 49, respectively. Seniors Sophia Wicker, Rebekah Fockler, Sydney McCabe and Junior Aubrie Hamilton all turned in solid performances on a very challenging Arrowhead golf course.

BOYS SOCCER

Perry 2 New Philadelphia 1

At Massillon Perry on Saturday, Aug. 23.  Perry was first to find a goal early in the first half.  But an assist from Asher Zimmerman and a goal by Cade Jones got the Quakers on the scoreboard just before the half.  The match remained 1-1 until Perry scored their second goal with less than 4 minutes remaining.  The Quakers had multiple shots on goal throughout the match by Nathan Seigler, Luis Herrera-Lopez, Jacob MacMath, and Cade Jones but were unable to even things up before time ran out.  Quaker goalie, Miles Beitzel, had 7 saves in the match.  The Quakers move to 0-1-1 on the season.  In the JV match prior, Perry beat the Quakers 2-1.

CROSS COUNTRY

The Claymont Mustangs opened their season at their very own Claymont Mark Albaugh Early Bird Invitational Saturday. More than 30 schools and close to 1,000 runners crossed the finish line.

Claymont’s girls finished 6th out of 21 schools, and the boys were 8th out of 20. Bellaire won the girls and boys small school division, Meadowbrook edged Indian Valley for the girls large school division, and Northwest won the boys large school division.

Last Year’s Mustang state qualifiers Kali Wallace and Grace McPherson both kicked off their seasons with fast times and top 10 finishes. Wallace finished 2nd and McPherson was 9th out of 115 girls. Among other area schools, Sandy Valley’s Evelyn Pfeffer was 5th, Strasburg’s Kyle McKenzie was 7th and Tuscarawas Central Catholic’s Elena Price was 8th.

Garaway’s boys placed second in the small school division, with three runners – Nic Palmer, Kai Brehm and Dominic Schlabach finishing in the top 10.
