Dead body found in New Philadelphia

NEW PHILADELPHIA – Investigators are working to identify a dead body found in New Philadelphia Sunday afternoon. A caller notified police around 4:45 p.m. of a possible deceased person near the 1100 block of Maple Avenue NW, in a high brush area. Chief Tessa Pohovey says arriving officers and detectives confirmed this report.
“A deceased male at that location. At this time we do not have an identity on this male. We’re currently working on obtaining that. It appeared that he had been there for some time.
“It was a high brush area back off the road. It was back a little ways sort of in the wooded high brush area that would be kind of behind Walmart-Aldi in that area.”
Pohovey says their investigation continues as they await autopsy results.
“We’ll be able to have more information to release and be able to make a little bit more available to the public, and to help ourselves at that point with identity and notifications, and all of that.”
The Cuyahoga Medical Examiner’s Office will perform the autopsy.
