Dueling Pianos event benefits homeless shelter

| October 6, 2025

NEW PHILADEPHIA – The Friends of the Homeless are planning a dueling pianos fundraiser as Jack’s House of Hope homeless shelter nears an expected December opening.

Board President Rev. Joe Svancara says the Friends of the Homeless have raised $4.5 million toward a $5.5 million dollar goal, mainly through donations from individuals, companies and foundations.

The Dueling Pianos and silent auction fundraiser will be Saturday, Oct. 18th, at the Marilyn in New Philadelphia, with tickets at $80 per couple or $50 for one. Proceeds support the shelter’s operations.

A silent auction that day will include trip packages, sports memorabilia, and more. The Friends will also begin selling tickets for a drawing for a car. The winner will be announced at the shelter grand opening in December.

Tickets are available through Svancara, who is the pastor at the New Philadelphia First Presbyterian Church. His number is 440-396-4151.

The new 20,000 -square-foot shelter will have 31 rooms and is being built behind the existing shelter at 211 East High Ave.
