DeWine visits Tusky Valley’s new school-based health center

| October 31, 2025

ZOARVILLE (WJER) (Oct. 31, 2025)  – The Tusky Valley school community has now been able to celebrate its new school-based health center with the governor and others who made it possible.

The nearly $2.3 million project, located in the old high school on the district campus, was funded through the Governor’s Appalachian Grant Program. It is for students and residents in a district that’s been medically underserved.

Governor Mike DeWine spoke at a ribbon cutting ceremony for the health center Thursday and then toured the facility, saying he was impressed.

Superintendent Derek Varansky says construction started in January and it actually opened in August. He says it has already been helping reduce staff and student absences.

State Senator Al Landis and State Representative Jodi Salvo also spoke and presented Varansky with proclamations on Thursday to commemorate the occasion.

The old high school – now repurposed as a community center – continues to transform as it also houses district offices, the Tusky Valley Senior Center, space for local philanthropic groups, yoga classes, counseling services, and more in the works.
