Motorcyclist dies after hitting tree that had fallen into roadway
NEW PHILADELPHIA – A Mineral City man was killed after the motorcycle he was driving struck a tree that had fallen across the roadway.
The New Philadelphia Highway Patrol Post says the accident happened just after 7 p.m. on Wednesday on County Road 66 in Union Township.
The Post reports a 1999 Harley Davidson Road King Classic was traveling northbound when it struck the downed tree, overturned and went off the right side of the road.
The driver of the motorcycle, 47-year-old Michael McHale of Mineral City, was first taken to Union Hospital then air-lifted to Akron General where he succumbed to his injuries. He was wearing a helmet. The crash remains under investigation.

New Philadelphia – The New Philadelphia Highway Patrol Post is investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred on County Road 66 (Roxford Church Road) in Union Township, Tuscarawas County.
On November 5, 2025, at approximately 7:06 p.m., a 1999 Harley Davidson Road King Classic motorcycle was traveling northbound on County Road 66 when it struck a downed tree that was across the roadway. The motorcycle overturned and went off the right side of the roadway.
The driver of the motorcycle, Michael McHale, age 47, of Mineral City, Ohio, was transported by Smith Ambulance to Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital for injuries sustained in the crash. Mr. McHale was then air-lifted to Cleveland Clinic Akron General where he succumbed to his injuries.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, Smith Ambulance, Sherrodsville Fire Department, Dennison Fire Department, and Affordable Towing.
The driver was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
