Snow slows morning commute, cancels classes for Tuesday

ODOT’s OHGO map shows reduced speeds for traffic throughout Tuscarawas County at 7:15 a.m. on Dec. 2.
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Dec. 2, 2025) – State Transportation officials say they’ve been ready for whatever the forecast ends up dumping on the roads today.
The National Weather Service has a winter weather advisory in effect from midnight through 1 p.m. today.
Drivers should plan to leave early. The roads were snow covered as of 6 a.m. and traffic was moving well below the speed limit in most areas. The OHGO website shows the latest travel speeds. First responders have been out at several crashes already this morning. Area school districts have also canceled classes for the day.
ODOT District 11 training officer Nathan Landis says drivers need to plan to share the roads with his department’s plow trucks. Landis says his crews are tasked with trying to get as much of the road cleared as quickly as possible for the traveling public.
The National Weather Service says we could see between two and five inches of snow total from this system today. Forecasters were telling drivers to prepare for slippery road conditions impacting this morning’s commute.
