Hazmat crews clean up Mineral City area truck rollover
SANDY TWP. (WJER) (March 10, 2026) – Hazmat crews spent several hours Monday afternoon containing and cleaning up a spill east of Mineral City after a tanker truck rolled over on Linden Tree Road at about 4 p.m.
Officials say the Hilltop Energy truck released several hundred pounds of powdery ammonium nitrate — a product used in mining explosives — along with up to 10 gallons of diesel fuel and about five gallons of hydraulic oil.
Tuscarawas County Hazmat member and Dover Fire Captain Mike Mossor says crews were able to keep the spilled materials largely contained and separated. Only a small amount of fuel reached a ditch leading to a nearby creek. He described the environmental impact as very minimal. Crews cleared the scene around 10 p.m.
The driver was taken to a hospital to be evaluated, and investigators were working to determine what caused the crash. The was also some structural damage to the road that the Tuscarawas County Engineer’s Office would need to assess.
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Ohio Motor Carrier Enforcement were all alerted to the situation.
