Car strikes downtown New Philadelphia building; no serious injuries reported

| March 18, 2026

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (March 18, 2026) – Firefighters say no one was seriously hurt and damage was minimal after a car struck a downtown building early Tuesday afternoon. The crash happened around 12:50 p.m. at the corner of North Broadway and Fair Avenue, according to Assistant Chief Matt Tharp.

Tharp says a 76‑year‑old woman drove into the building after passing out behind the wheel. Although the vehicle struck the structure, he described the incident as a low‑impact crash. Paramedics reported that the driver was alert afterward and told them she had lost consciousness, causing her to lose control and hit the building.

There was no structural damage to the building and only minimal damage to the woman’s car. She was taken to the hospital as a precaution due to concerns about her brief loss of consciousness.
