Tuscarawas County Measles Cases Linked to Wider Ohio Outbreak

| August 21, 2026

DOVER (WJER) (Aug. 21, 2026) –  The 12 recent cases of measles in Tuscarawas County are part of a wider outbreak that started in mid-July.

Tuscarawas County Health Department spokesperson Jennifer Demuth says the local infected individuals are recovering at home. She says those cases and more than 80 statewide have been traced to exposure events in Sugarcreek and Bloomfield on July 17th and 18th.

Two infected individuals from Ashtabula County attended events in those towns before they started showing measles symptoms.

Demuth says the more recently confirmed cases are second-generation infections. That means those individuals were not at the events in mid-July but were in contact with people who were.
