Suspect arrested after crash, pursuit, drone and K-9 search
SUGARCREEK – Police say a drive with expired plates turned a routine traffic stop into a high-speed pursuit, a crash, a drone and K-9 search, and ultimately his arrest on felony charges.
Sugarcreek Police Chief Kevin Kaser says police stopped the 23-year-old male suspect – Justo Camaja Primero – for expired plates on Sunday morning. When the officer got out of his car, the suspect sped away at an estimated 100 miles per hour or faster going eastbound on state Route 39. He crashed into an embankment and fled on foot into the woods. The State Highway Patrol, Sheriff’s Office and the Dover Fire Department helped in the search. They used a drone and a police dog. Eventually the suspect phoned a friend and agreed to give himself up peacefully.
Kaser says Camaja-Primero went to the hospital with minor injuries. He is now in the Tuscarawas County Jail with bond set at $10,000 on a third-degree felony fleeing and eluding charge.
