LAWRENCE TWP – Fireworks will light up the sky over Route 212 between Zoar and Bolivar Saturday night to cap off a community-wide day of giving.

Zoar View Investments owners Kyle and Samantha Quillen are putting on the display from their home near the Zoar Golf Club and have invited the businesses in the area to use it as an opportunity to fundraise for different charities.

“Lockport Brewery is donating a percentage of their day’s proceeds to the Affordable Christmas Program up here,” Kyle Quillen said. “Donnie’s Tavern is donating to the Grinch Christmas Program. Zoar Golf Course is another kind of viewing location and Brad and the team down there are going to take their proceeds and donate them to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society,”

The Quillens are calling the effort “Sparks of Giving,” and they plan to make it a yearly occurrence.

“What we’re really trying to accomplish here is that it’s just everybody is giving to something that they’re passionate about either in their organization or personally and really just trying to spur some economic development in the area,” Quillen said. “I think we’re going to be shocked with how many people this reaches this year and our goal is to make it an annual event that everybody can put in their calendar and just continue to grow. “

They’re encouraging people to come out early and spend some time enjoying all that Northern Tuscarawas County has to offer.

“Between the trails and the canoes and the rivers and golf courses and just the sense of community as a whole and trying to let people know that, hey, there’s more to do here than just stroll by the exit.”

The Tusky Valley Booster Club will be charging for parking at the high school ahead of the fireworks and putting the money toward stadium renovations. There’s a full list of “Sparks of Giving” participants and the causes they’re supporting on the event’s Facebook page.
