Crime spree nets Dennison man two years in prison, extended probation

Dale A. Doughty Jr. (Tuscarawas County Sheriff)

NEW PHILADELPHIA – A 29-year-old Dennison man will serve at least two years in prison then three years on probation for a crime spree last year that included car break-ins in Dover, several thefts in New Philadelphia, and a high-speed pursuit that ended in Bolivar.

Dale Doughty Junior had pleaded guilty to nine felonies in five separate criminal cases before two different judges in Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court. He was sentenced last week.

The harshest sentence was 24 months imprisonment for failure to comply with the order of a police officer and receiving stolen property. Those charges stem from an October high speed pursuit, where Doughty drove a stolen pickup truck from New Philadelphia and led police on a dangerous chase that ended after he crashed into a utility pole in Bolivar.

Other cases had charges of theft, breaking and entering, and grand theft of a motor vehicle. For those crimes, Doughty was sentenced to intense probation that includes some local incarceration until he is placed into a regional community correction center program. That would all happen after any prison term. Doughty was also ordered to pay a total of around $30,000 in restitution to seven different victims.
