Dover anticipates new pickle ball courts later this year

| April 28, 2025

The city's early renderings show eight pickleball courts behind the bocce ball courts at the city park. Right now, the city can afford to build four.

DOVER – The city won’t have new pickle ball courts for the start of summer, but Mayor Shane Gunnoe believes they’ll be under construction sometime this year.

Gunnoe has outlined the city’s plan to spend $255,000 to build four new pickle ball courts at the city park this year. It will be partly funded by $90,000 in private donations.

Gunnoe hopes City Council will approve the project in May so he can award a contract in June and have the work start soon after that.

City officials also hope to build a splash pad at the pool and resurface the playground at the city park over the next two years. Gunnoe says the city is pursuing grants for that work.

Meanwhile, the city is accepting registration for the Canal Dover Festival parade. It’s at noon on Saturday, May 25. Registration forms are on the city’s website. The Canal Dover Festival will be Memorial Day weekend May 24 through 26.
