Dover house destroyed in Sunday fire

| January 31, 2022

DOVER (WJER) (Jan 31, 2022) – Dover firefighters say a weekend blaze has left a home in the 400 block of South Tuscarawas Avenue a total loss.
Fire Lt. Kyle Ousley says no one was home at the time and there were no injuries. He believes someone across the street reported the fire shortly after 11 a.m. Sunday.
“Heavy fire conditions, especially on the first floor. They had flames showing from two sides of the structure. The other two sides were showing heavy pressurized gray smoke. Due to the cold temperatures, the smoke was hanging kind of low, so you couldn’t really see much of the second story when we first arrived.”
Ousley says it took a couple of hours to have the fire out.
“Sadly, because of the way we couldn’t just get an aggressive interior push on it, we kind of had to sit back and let it come to us, to a point. So really, our first chance to get a good advantage on it was when the roof finally collapsed.”
Ousley says crews were able to utilize a backhoe on the rubble.
“We’re going to have them hopefully help us move some of this stuff out of the way so we can get to some of the hotspots so it’s not just smoldering for the next few days.”
Ousley says a fire investigator has been working to determine the cause.
You can see a video of the fire now on the WJER Facebook page.
