Dover raising money for more pickleball courts

| September 24, 2024

Renderings provided by Dover Mayor Shane Gunnoe show eight new pickleball courts at the city park, but he says the initial fundraising is just for four.

DOVER – The city is hoping to raise $255,000 to add more pickleball courts at the city park.

Mayor Shane Gunnoe says that would cover the costs of adding four courts next to the parks office and bocce courts on Wooster Avenue.

Gunnoe says the city’s two pickleball courts at Deis Hill are always busy.

“It’s not uncommon to see people waiting a half an hour or 45 minutes sometimes to wait to use a court, so we’re trying to do something to meet the needs of the community,” he said.

The Dover Parks Foundation is starting the fundraising drive at its second annual Parktober Fest at Dover City Park on Saturday, Oct. 12. It has a German theme with food, polka music, games and more. Tickets, at $15 for adults and $5 for kids, must be purchased by Oct. 6 and are available at the Dover Parks Office or McDonald NiklausFraming.

People also can donate to the pickleball project directly to “the city of Dover” with checks mailed to the auditor’s office, 122 E 3rd Street, Dover, OH 44622, and Pickleball in the memo line.
