Dover received over $5 million in grants over last two years

| April 28, 2025

DOVER – Mayor Shane Gunnoe is touting the city’s recent success in obtaining state and federal grants to pay for a variety of projects from roadwork to sewer lines to park amenities.

Gunnoe says the city has received approximately $5 million in grants over the last two years. He says most of that comes from state and federal grants.

“I mean, those are tax dollars that are paid by Dover residents to either the state or federal government,” he said.

Gunnoe says the city has been working harder lately to obtain grants. “You have to be with the way prices have gone up,” he said.

Most recently, the city received an additional $400,000 from the Ohio Department of Development. This will go toward infrastructure work for the new Schaeffler Manufacturing facility being built on the city’s north side. Gunnoe says the city has received nearly $3 million for the road, sewer and utility work related to that project.

Dover officials were not successful in obtaining grants for new pickle ball courts, but Gunnoe says they have enough in private donations and city funds to build the courts later this year.

One of the city’s next targets for grant funding is park amenities, including a new splash pad and playground resurfacing.
