Dover takes last-day-of-school precautions after non-specific threat

DOVER – Local schools moved their last-day-of-school activities inside after a parent reported a non-specific threat she received on her phone.
Superintendent Karie McCrate sent a message to parents Thursday afternoon saying there would be an increased police presence around the district buildings.
“We received a report from a parent who had received a phone call in their home that included a general threat toward schools,” McCrate said. “Not specifically toward a Dover school, but it was to a Dover parent with a threat toward schools.”
She says the parent reported the call to the district and local police, who are investigating.
“Working with the Dover Police Department, we had an increased police presence on our campus,” McCrate said. “It’s the last day of school, so we had many activities going on outside this afternoon. The ones that we could and as quickly as possible, we simply moved them inside.”
Dover police say they had little information to go on, but they didn’t find any evidence to substantiate a credible threat against Dover schools. They said they still saturated the areas around the buildings with officers as a precaution.
