| January 13, 2022

HOLMESVILLE (WJER) (Jan. 13, 2022)  – The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office says a Millersburg area man and his young son were killed in a crash involving their Amish buggy and an SUV.

Deputies say the southbound SUV struck the open-top buggy cart from behind on state Route 83 in Mechanic Township, south of Millersburg, Wednesday around 6:15 p.m.

The driver of the buggy, 34-year-old Paul A. Wengerd, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His 4-year-old son died from his injuries at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.

The 28-year-old Millersburg woman driving the SUV was not injured.

The horse pulling the cart had minor injuries and fled the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
