Firefighters rescue 2 dogs trapped in Gnadenhutten house fire

| March 14, 2025

GNADENHUTTEN (WJER) (Mar. 14, 2025) – Arrowhead Joint Fire District’s chief says a Gnadenhutten resident came home to a house fire following a shopping trip Thursday.

Chief Steven Wright says firefighters arrived a couple minutes later to the house in the 200 block of North Plum Street around 5:30 p.m.

Firefighters encountered flames and heavy black smoke coming from the basement but had the fire out within 10 minutes.

Firefighters also rescued two dogs on the second floor. Both pets suffered smoke inhalation but are expected to survive.

The fire was contained to the basement but there was smoke and water damage upstairs. The insurance company will determine the damage estimate.

Wright says the cause is under investigation but appears accidental.
