CARROLLTON  (WJER) (Sept. 26, 2022) – The Carroll County community is mourning its longtime sheriff.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office announced Sunday that Sheriff Dale Williams had passed away peacefully after proudly serving Carroll County for the past 18 years.

Williams was elected in 2004 and held the position until his death Saturday at 74.

Williams was a Democrat and party members will be responsible for selecting his replacement as sheriff.

According to his obituary, Williams started off as a dispatcher for the sheriff’s office in 1969. He later served as a road deputy, a Carrollton police officer, and a sergeant.

Williams is survived by his wife Leona, their two children, and numerous grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 pm at the Bell-Herron gymnasium in Carrollton. The gymnasium will host funeral services at 11 am Friday.

The Dodds Funeral Home in Carrollton is handling arrangements.
