New Phila PD search for man accused of assaulting café patron
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Feb. 20, 2023) – Police are investigating after a panhandler reportedly attacked a man outside of a downtown business this morning.
Officers responded to the Daily Grind Café around 6:30 am after getting a call about a customer being assaulted. The customer reported being kicked in the arm by a man outside he had given money to in the past when he refused to cough any up that morning.
The customer was bleeding when police arrived but refused medical treatment. He couldn’t identify his attacker by name but described him as a man with a scruffy beard wearing gray sweatpants and a gray shirt.
The suspect reportedly fled down the alley with a woman in a gold-colored shirt, but officers patrolled the area and didn’t find anyone. Investigators have been trying to track down surveillance video so they can identify and charge him.
