New Philadelphia High School hosts Veterans Day breakfast

| November 8, 2024

NEW PHILADELPHIA – New Philadelphia Schools are honoring veterans with their second annual Veterans Day breakfast program at 8 a.m. Monday in the New Philadelphia High School cafeteria.

Organizers ask veterans to sign up by filling out a form that can be found on the New Philadelphia City Schools’ website and social media pages.

Veterans do not have to be related to a student, but if they are, they should include that information so the schools can involve the students in the program.

Special education teacher Jason McClelland, a Marine veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, is part of the building-wide effort to say, “Thank you for your service.” The art department will display student artwork, the Delphian Choral will perform and there will be a “great spread” of breakfast foods.

McClelland appreciates the opportunity to educate students about veterans in their families and community. He says last year’s breakfast was a multi-generational event.

“I know being a post 9-11 veteran we served in a time where a lot more people were aware, thankful and appreciative. I know that there are some prior generation veterans who did not necessarily receive that same warm welcome coming home, so it’s nice to see them partake in something where they are being celebrated as well,” McClelland said.

Assistant Principal Josh Jarvis says all veterans are welcome to attend.

“We just want to say thank you, even to the ones who can’t make it, thank you to all of our veterans. We absolutely enjoy freedoms that would not be possible without our veterans, so we can’t thank them enough for what they’ve done for us,” Jarvis said.
