They say the 62-year-old father of six pursued his passion with determination, achieving an Instrument rating, a Commercial Pilot Certificate, and a Multi-Engine Rating, and dreamed of earning an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate. He had taken off and landed a plane in all 50 states. He had named his plane “Cow Girl” and flew it with his wife Linda across the country.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife Linda, father, six children, a step-daughter, and 21 grandchildren.
A service is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, at 11 a.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene in New Philadelphia.
The National Transportation Safety Board is still working on its investigation of the April 1 crash. Evans was the only person aboard the 1973 Cessna when it crashed in a farm field across the Tuscarawas River from Five Waters Golf Course. It had taken off almost half an hour earlier from Harry Clever Field in New Philadelphia about four miles away.
