NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Jan. 11th, 2022) – The two newest city council members who were voted into office in November are receiving a warm welcome to their positions.

Ward 2 Councilman Mitch Pace and Ward 4 councilman Jim Seldenright Jr. took part in their first council meeting Monday.
Seldenright, surrounded by family, was sworn in by Law Director Marvin Fete prior to the start.

Mayor Joel Day says he’s happy to have them on board.

“Your public service will give you an opportunity to make decisions that improve the quality of life in New Philadelphia and keep our City as the best place in the county to do business and raise a family.”

Fete also wished them well.

“They’re friends of mine. I think they’ll be a wonderful addition. They have some big shoes to fill, but if anybody can fill it, it’s going to be these two and I’m really looking forward to working with them.”

Pace replaces retired Councilman John Zucal. Seldenright takes over for retired Councilman Rob Maurer.
