Officials recognize national champion Kent State Tusc volleyball team

NEW PHILADELPHIA – the Kent State Tuscarawas women’s volleyball team has been getting red carpet treatment over the past couple of weeks.
The Golden Eagles were first honored with a proclamation at New Philadelphia’s City Council meeting on Monday, March 17, for winning the first-ever USCAA Division II national championship for both the program and the first for any sport at the school.
“This team of exemplary athletes has set a new standard for excellence in women’s volleyball at Kent State University Tuscarawas. We look forward to their continued success.”
The team then went to the state capitol the following Wednesday for recognition in the Ohio House from State Rep Jodi Salvo and in the Ohio Senate from Al Landis.
“This truly remarkable group of athletes has brought an incredible accomplishment to Tuscarawas County,” Salvo said.
The coaches, players, and Dean Brad Bielski were present and acknowledged during Wednesday’s trip to Columbus.
Head coach Cortney Goodwin and assistant coach Steve Colpus were named the Coaching Staff of the Year in USCAA Division II. Freshman Mackenzie Neininger was named the Championship MVP.
