Polar Express volunteers needed

| October 5, 2022

DENNISON (WJER) (Oct. 5, 2022) – The Dennison Railroad Depot Museum is getting everything lined up for this year’s Polar Express train rides.

Museum Director Wendy Zucal says that includes recruiting volunteers for elves, storytellers and their assistants, car hosts, and other roles.

There’s a training session for interested today at the Dennison Presbyterian Church on Grant Street starting at 5:30 pm for new elves and 6 pm for experienced elves. There will then be a railroad safety meeting for both groups from 7-7:30 pm.

She says it takes at least 150 to 200 volunteers a trip, and there’s a lot to go over in advance.

Zucal says they’ll have Polar Express rides during both the day and evening this year. They’ve also added Thursday rides, so she says there are many opportunities for volunteers to find a time that works for them.

Zucal says anyone is welcome to volunteer, but there are a few requirements. Storytellers have to be at least 18 years old. Elves must be in the 4th grade or older and car hosts should be strong enough to assist passengers on and off the train.

This year’s Polar Express rides are from December 1-4 and 8-11.
