Police were called for ‘small kids’ fighting at Dover-Phila game

NEW PHILADELPHIA (October 29, 2024) – Fans at Friday’s rivalry game between Dover and New Philadelphia were well behaved for the most part. However, there was one noticeable incident of hostility when police were called over the stadium speakers to the 40-yard line in front of the home stands at Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium.
New Philadelphia Police Capt. Rocky Dusenberry says a couple of middle school or freshman age kids – one from Dover and one from New Philadelphia – got in a scuffle.
“When we got there, there were two small kids that were entangled with each other, fighting I guess – more of a wrestling match. Some bystanders started to pull them apart, and once we got close, one of them took off running. We were able to grab him, and then we just escorted both of them out.”
The two kids could face more trouble as police referred the matter to the juvenile prosecutor.
“If the juvenile prosecutor wants, they could probably just charge them with disorderly conduct by fighting,” Dusenberry said.
Dusenberry says other than that, police didn’t observe any problems.
“There were problems at all. It was actually a nice crowd, and we had no issues with anybody else.”
New Philadelphia won the football game 42-24.
