SUGARCREEK (WJER) (May 23, 2022) – Sugarcreek firefighters made quick work of a fire at ProVia’s Walnut Creek corporate facility on state Route 39 Sunday morning using extinguishers.

Assistant Chief John Meek says they were sent to the smoke-filled building shortly after 11 a.m.

Numerous departments responded as a precaution.

He says the fire originated from a cubicle in the front office area and the facility’s air conditioning system circulated the smoke.

He wasn’t sure what caused the fire but said it appeared that it was electrical in nature and started on a desk, resulting in about $10,000 in damage.

He says firefighters stayed there close to three hours, mostly clearing smoke from the building and making sure nothing spread after getting the fire knocked down.

Normal operations were expected to resume there today.
