Buckeye Career Center, Strasburg school lock down after alleged threat
NEW PHILADELPHIA (November 12, 2024) – Police detained the estranged father of a Buckeye Career Center student after his son accused him of sending a threatening email that forced that school and the one in Strasburg into a soft lockdown Tuesday morning.
New Philadelphia Police Capt. Rocky Dusenberry says the suspect allegedly sent an email to the student threatening to shoot up the career center. Dusenberry later determined the student sent the email to himself.
Dusenberry says he got a copy of the email, located the estranged father, detained him at his workplace and brought him to the New Philadelphia Police department for questioning to determine if he actually sent the email.
Here is the press release from Buckeye Career Center:
New Philadelphia, OH (November 12, 2024) – Buckeye Career Center was placed on a soft lockdown this morning due to an electronic threat that was received by a student from a family member. In an abundance of caution, we secured all students, staff and visitors from Tusky Valley, TCC, and Carrollton. Working with the New Phila Police Department, the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office, and the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement agencies were able to identify and arrest the person suspected of making the threat. At no time were any students or staff in danger and the lock down was lifted once the suspect was detained.
Strasburg-Franklin school officials say the lock-in there was “out of an abundance of caution” and that there was no direct threat to students or staff.
