DOVER (WJER) (Jan. 4, 2022) – Tuscarawas County YMCA officials are hoping to see donations to the organization’s yearly fundraising campaign return to their pre-pandemic in the new year. Administrative Assistant Jenny Dallas says their 2021 campaign fell about $3,000 shy of its $85,000 goal. She attributes the shortfall to the decline in foot traffic they’ve been seeing at the Y during this pandemic despite their efforts to create the safest environment possible.

“You are welcome to wear your mask. We do have a mask-only room right now that is smaller, so if you want to come in and wear your mask and exercise in a slightly smaller room than the big one, you can come in. There’s equipment in there. We do cleaning constantly. There is sanitizer everywhere, so we’re being very cautious.”

Dallas says they’re hoping to make up the difference here in 2022.

“The goal for 2022 is $90,000. They can donate by coming into the Y. They can go onto our website, www.tuscymca.org and donate online. They can donate through the app or they can just call and we can do it over the phone.”

The annual campaign funds YMCA memberships and scholarships for children and families experiencing financial hardship. The last pre-pandemic one in 2019 raised over $88,000.
