Fans to celebrate 10th anniversary of locally filmed ‘Old Fashioned’ October 18

NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (Oct. 17, 2025) – The writer, director, and lead actor of the film Old Fashioned is returning to his hometown for a 10th anniversary screening of the movie Saturday at the Quaker Cinema.
New Philadelphia native Rik Swartzwelder says he’s coming up from Florida to celebrate the movie that was shot at various sites throughout Tuscarawas County just over a decade ago.
Swartzwelder says what he remembers most about the filming process is how the community rallied around the project.
He says the founder of the Old Fashioned Fan Club, Linda Wiley of Southern California, is organizing this weekend’s gathering.
Saturday’s screening will also start with a dedication to Joe Bonamico, the longtime performer and director at Trumpet in the Land who played the role of George in Old Fashioned. Bonamico passed away last year.
Saturday’s festivities begin with a social hour at the Daily Grind Cafe from 2 to 3:30 p.m. The screening gets underway at 4 p.m. There’s then an informal after-party at J-N-G Grill.
