Blaze leaves shed full of hay and farming equipment a total loss

| December 3, 2025

SUGARCREEK TWP. (WJER) (Dec. 3, 2025)  – Firefighters from Sugarcreek and several other departments spent about 10 hours at a fire involving a large shed full of hay and farming equipment in the 6100 block of Stony Point Road Tuesday afternoon.

Nobody was injured in the blaze that was first reported at about 12:30 p.m. when several people saw smoke coming from the farm.

Sugarcreek Fire Chief John Meek says the cause appears electrical – possibly a short involving machinery in the shed.

Meek says the shed had about 150 large square hay bales inside along with a combine harvester, a corn-planter, and other equipment.  He says it’s all a total loss, estimated at up to $500,000 in damage.

Meek says they had the road closed off to the public as tankers were shuttling water from the Sugar Creek.

Firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading to large chicken barns that were near the shed.
