DOVER (WJER) (Jan. 11, 2022) – Dover school leaders are resuming a practice they started early in the pandemic and discontinued a few months later.

School board meetings will stream live on the district’s website again starting in February. Superintendent Karie McCrate says it’s a sign of the board’s commitment to transparency and community engagement.

“People’s schedules are busy and they can’t always make it in person – in the room – for a board meeting,” she says. “This just gives them another way to be engaged and see what’s happening with our local school board.”

In-person attendance remains an option and is required to address the board.

“We still encourage people to come in person,” McCrate says. “We’re in a room that folks are able to spread out a bit. They can wear masks in the room if they choose to.”

The board started streaming its meetings in September of 2020 and stopped last January. McCrate says some recent technology upgrades have allowed them to resume the practice and carry it into the future.
