STRASBURG (WJER) (May 9, 2024) – A village police officer is being credited with saving someone’s life.

During Tuesday’s village council meeting, representatives from Cleveland Clinic and Mercy Hospital presented Kayla Morrison with a Challenge Coin Award for her actions on April 27th.

“You responded to a person in with an injury from a chainsaw. On arrival, you quickly applied a tourniquet. The patient was transported to Mercy Hospital and was determined to have an arterial injury and was taken to surgery for repair.”

The patient made a full recovery thanks to her efforts.

“Typically, we give these to EMS but you are fully deserving.”

Police Chief Dave Warrick says he couldn’t be more proud of Morrison, who got promoted to corporal earlier that evening.

“I was delighted to hear she was gonna get recognized for it. She did tell me the day after it happened and she kind of just chalked it up to a day’s work but she was very confident in what she did and I wouldn’t expect anything less of her.”

The former Marine and veterinary technician joined the department two years ago this summer and recently completed trauma response training.
