Arbor Day observed in New Phila
NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) (April 26, 2024) – City officials are again demonstrating New Philadelphia’s dedication to the Arbor Day cause.
Mayor Joel Day and others took part in the city’s annual observance by planting a tree along the entrance to the Southside Community Park this morning.
Day also read a proclamation declaring it Arbor Day in the City of New Philadelphia and urging all citizens to join the initiative on their own.
“The trees beautify our city. That’s one of the identifiers of our city,” said Day, “Tree-lined streets.”
Day says New Philadelphia has now been designated as a Tree City USA for close to 40 years.
“That’s important, to maintain our tree canopy in the city and to just promote preservation of trees and planting of trees,” said Day, “Yeah, it’s very important.”
Day also suggests contacting any arborist in the area for help in selecting the best kind of tree for your property.
