UHRICHSVILLE (WJER) (Jan. 28, 2022) – The city fire department has been responding to EMS calls in its backup ambulance after one of its primary units collided with a deer.

Chief Judd Edwards talked about the collision during Thursday night’s city council meeting, saying it happened around 4 am Sunday as Medic 1910 was turning right onto U.S. 250. The ambulance was en route to the hospital with a patient but Edwards says fortunately another fire department had one available to finish the job.

“They did go ahead and pull off the road because there were some fluids leaking and they weren’t sure what they were at the time. So they just called New Phila Fire to come up. It was just past Schoenbrunn, just past the jail. Phila Fire came down, go the patient for us, and finished the transport, so we called and thanked them. “

Edwards says the ambulance should be going into the shop for repairs sometime next week. He’s unsure when the work will be complete because it’s taking longer to get parts because of nationwide supply chain shortages.
